Book Series Review: Happily Inc

FIRST of all, Happily Inc is a spin-off series of Susan Mallery’s Fool’s Gold.  I didn’t realize this till I was already half into the book (and agreed to read and review the first two books), so I am not sure if it ruins anything. The connection is the Mitchell brothers.  We get three of Mitchell brothers’ stories in this series, and another brother and the family background is present in the Fool’s Gold series (I am not sure which books).

YOU SAY IT FIRST

(Happily Inc: #1)
Written by Susan Mallery
(Narrated by Tanya Eby)
2017; HQN Books (345 Pages)
(Audio length: 8 hours and 9 minutes)
Genre: fiction, series, romance, contemporary, small town, weddings

Rating:teal-star-hiteal-star-hiteal-star-hiteal-star-hi

The name of the heroine, Pallas, kept throwing me off as I listened to the audio but otherwise I really enjoyed this novel. Please note this the first book in the Happily Inc series, but is a spin-off of Fool’s Gold. I find that after reading all the psychological gritty suspense and nonfiction I need a breather. I like small town romances as I need the sweet HEA to make the world right again. I am finding that since I met my own hero, I find them less annoying, lol. Instead of wishing for the hero in the book, I can smugly agree with the heroine’s feelings. Happily Inc is a town meant for weddings, and Pallas finds that her lark in a wedding planning business might just be her dream job, instead of the finance world her mother wants her to be in. As she is trying to figure out if she wants to continue with her mentor’s business she starts to fall for sculptor, Nick, who already has one foot out of town. I have read a few novels by Mallery and for the most part she creates realistic story lines with strong characters that aren’t forced to fall for one another. I have to go back to Fool’s Gold at some point!

SECOND CHANCE GIRL

(Happily Inc: #2)
Written by Susan Mallery
(Narrated by Tanya Eby)
2017; HQN Books (345 Pages)
(Audio length: 8 hours and 46 minutes)
Genre: fiction, series, romance, contemporary, small town, weddings

Rating: teal-star-hiteal-star-hiteal-star-hi

The second novel features Carol, the gamekeeper, and artist Mathias Mitchell. The chemistry between the two characters wasn’t as strong and felt forced and rushed a bit at times. The best parts were with the giraffes. It is fun fluffy light read, but nothing special.

There is a novella after the second novel called, A Very Merry Princess  It features Pallas’s brother, Cade and a princess in disguise, Bethany.  While I was waiting to read about Cade’s story, I am not a fan of these type of romances especially in a novella size.  We basically get the story in book 3 and 4 so you don’t miss out if you choose not to read it!

WHY NOT TONIGHT

(Happily Inc: #3)
Written by Susan Mallery
(Narrated by Tanya Eby)
2018; HQN Books (384 Pages)
(Audio length: 7 hours and 52 minutes)
Genre: fiction, series, romance, contemporary, small town, weddings

Rating: teal-star-hiteal-star-hiteal-star-hi1:2

Book three features Natalie, who works at the art gallery in town and is an artist herself (paper) and Ronan Mitchell, an artist in glass. Ronan has been brooding over a family secret and has escaped to his home in the mountain. When Natalie goes to check on him she trapped there due to a mudslide. The whole story is not about being trapped together so it flowed a bit better. I liked the chemistry between Natalie and Ronan and the story line of family secrets coming to a bit of an ending. I am definitely enjoying these on audio.

NOT QUITE OVER YOU

(Happily Inc: #4)
Written by Susan Mallery
(Narrated by Tanya Eby)
2018; HQN Books (352 Pages)
(Audio length: 8 hours and 12 minutes)
Genre: fiction, series, romance, contemporary, small town, weddings

Rating: teal-star-hiteal-star-hiteal-star-hi

I was looking forward to Silver and Drew’s story of being high school sweethearts, but this turned out to be my least favourite in the series. The chemistry was so-so and the storyline seem to force conflict that wasn’t there and things turned out okay too easily. I did like that it tied up some other storylines.

I am not sure if this series will be continuing or if there will be another spin-off.  I will let you know.
