Last Post on Viva Organics

It has been two months since I have been using Viva Organics, and while I like the product, it has not yet wowed me. And looking at the cost of all I need for this routine, I am not sure it is affordable for me. I will finish using the products as they are good. I just wished it was a bit simpler. I want a cleanser and moisturizer that works both day and night and maybe an anti-aging product. I am going to do some research and see what else I can find out there!

Any and every recommendation is welcomed…plus, I know Alicia Silverstone is all about pure products, and Drew Barrymore is great at products.  Will keep you posted!

One Month Later…Viva Organics

It has been a month since I started my new beauty regime with Viva Organics and I have to give it 4 stars so far.  Surprisingly, I have only missed one night routine!  I had put on the facial toner and was going apply the rest after and totally forgot 😦  There are some nights I want to be lazy and skip it, but it is so quick and easy I haven’t given into my laziness. See April’s Post.

In the morning I wash my face with milk facial cleanser, then spray on my facial toner.  Before I get ready in the morning apply moisturizer – I mix the concentrated antioxidant serum with pure hylauronic acid serum and use the eye firming cream.  THEN at night I use the amaze exfoliating gel either when I shower or before I fall asleep.  I again spray the facial toner.  I then mix he concentrated antioxidant serum with pure hylauronic acid serum AND also Bio Brightening C Serum (which is only for nighttime use).  I then finish it off with the eye firming cream.

I did break out a little in the second week, but I think it was due the change in my routine.  My skin never feels greasy or oily in my t-zone nor to I have dry patches on my face anymore.  My skin feels soft and I’ve not had any issues arise.   While I don’t directly apply any of the products on my lips, it does sometimes get on them, and again no issues.  I use lip balm here and there it seems like I need it less.  I don’t know if there has been major improvements to my skin, but it hasn’t gotten worse, so that’s a win 🙂 I will post a pic every month so you can see if there are any changes.

Next I am tacking natural deodorant.  I have not had luck in the past but there seems to be hope on the horizon…stay tuned!

Ahhhh, sugar…oh, how you make me feel good and give me a jolt of energy…and then leave me feeling gross and tired.  I can’t say it is sugar that has gotten me, ahem, a bit chubby, though it hasn’t helped, that’s for sure.  I am pretty good about not having sugar in my teas and try to stay away from sweets.  Yet, there are SO many other things that have sugar.  Even when it says sugar: 0, you still have to investigate the ingredients.  People are up in arms over vaccines conspiracies, why aren’t we just as concerned about sugar (and salt).  I have cut sugar, dairy and bread before due to an unknown allergy issue so I know I can do it.  But that damn 3 o’clock lull in the day makes me want to hunt, neanderthal-style, for anything that gives me a zip.  Or when I am on my period I want chocolate so bad I would steal it from a baby and maybe not feel bad about it.  Now that I am 36, I kind of gotta do the adult thing and look after my body.  Ugh, adulting is so harrrrrrrd!

One thing about being honest I know that I am clever at justifying and deflecting when it comes to eating.  So that means I got to catch the bullshit things I say,

“It’s a birthday thing, so I had to have cake”

“Hmmm, but did you?  Did you really have to?”

“Birthday, I said”

Or, my favorite is the fries justification.  Everyone loves fries so you don’t even have to really make sense for the other person to agree.

“It’s Wednesday so I’m going to have fries instead of the salad”

Other person, “You go girl! Fries are like the best.”

The other thing have to be aware of is playing the victim.  I was never an average weight – I was underweight or overweight.  Meals have always been stressful as I felt like someone was always critiquing me.  And, then I use the “everyone is so mean and against me so I am going to eat everything on my plate and have seconds.  That will show them when I am so full I can only roll away.”  I also inhale food, hungry or not, because dinner time wasn’t always a fun time at my house.  I wanted to eat and get out of dodge.  Any criticism or stress while I am eating is a food trigger.  Now don’t get the tissues out.  I know what I am doing and still do it, and that is what I need to fix.

Food is not a friend.  While I think it comforts me, it only hurts me in the end.  It’s not even an ex you can rid of, but more like a family member you have to compromise with to co-exist.  When my grandmother passed away and I lost my job..I ate.  I also stopped exercising and just felt bad about everything.  When my ex-boyfriend would get on me about not exercising and eating too much I would only feel hurt and angry.  He then would get frustrated and mean.  I would get even more…fat.  Hence, now I need more food.  Also, again, I will show him by getting super fat.  Ha, there!

Oh wait, I am the one who is now huffing after walking a few steps.  That wasn’t how it was in my head.   I am uncomfortable in my body.  This is not about wanting to fit in size 00 so I can take selfies about how thin and suddenly amazing I am and look.  I’m starting to get bad posture, my bad knee is aching from the extra weight, I feel bloated and nothing fits like it used to and then that just makes me buy bigger clothes to hide myself.  I’m deflecting not solving anything.  Now I can be the “poor me” and someday appear on My 600-lb life, or I can use tough love.

I’m starting slow…painfully slow.  On May 1st, I will be giving up as much sugar as I can.  This means no sweets or actual sugar products but may still eat other foods with sugar in it.  Since I am sensitive to it anyway I am giving up milk products,  except cheese and yogurt (this is just for everyone’s safety).  Bread is my love…I can have dry toast and it’s like heaven.  Alas, I will be eating bread only 3 times a week.  (I mentally just cried after a small montage of different kinds of bread played in my head).  I am going to try this for a month and see how it goes and will let you know my progress – good or bad.  In June, I will be trying yoga…which might make for a good YouTube video.

Viva Organics: First Impressions

After using Viva Organics skin care for 24 hours…here are my first impressions.

Suggestion: Unfortunately, the directions are not on the product themselves so either keep the packaging or take a picture so you can reference it.  Directions are also on the website if you do lose the packaging.

Usage: It is really easy to use once you have used each product, and by the second time it takes you less than 5 minutes to do.

What I dislike: Nothing so far.

What I like: I love the look of the products…very simple and pretty – just like my style 😉 – so I am actually keeping them on the counter versus my drawer.  It is quick and easy to use so it has been easy to slip it into my other routines.  I found with my usual products I would accidentally get the cream in my eye that would sting it and I have to wash it out quickly.  Or, get it on my lip and then lick my lips to a foul taste.  So far with this product I have not had that happen – we will see.

How my skin feels: So far no breakouts or rash so no reactions to anything.  My skin feels so soft and there is no greasy feeling when I touch my face.  There is no strong smells, only faint fragrance of the natural products.

Viva Organics: Living Free of Parabens: Review in Process

From Viva Organics

When my cousin, Jessie, first told me about Parabens, and what they can do, I was a bit horrified.  Scared mostly because Parabens can cause many negative effects.  They are used simply because it is inexpensive.  I get that companies want to save on money, because I, too like to spend less for more.  I have had skin issues (dry skin, with oily patches, light acne and blackheads)  in my teens and early twenties, but on the whole have been pretty lucky in the genetics department.  So I have kind of just used anything that is sale at the moment (gasp! I know!).  At thirty-six years old, I still get carded when I buy alcohol, and without ID I can’t even buy a lottery ticket.  I am thankful that I look 10 years younger, but what happens when I get older? What if my lucky genes run out? Or finding out that the cheap products I used is going to age me later…there is just so much to question!

Love TRESemme

For a year now, paraben-free products have been beckoning me…especially when my cousin works for a natural skin care company.  TRESemme has come out with a new paraben-free line for their hair care, Botanique.  I am using the shampoo, conditioner and a spray. I really like the light fragrance and with my hair short it keeps it from getting too poufy and like a nest.  And, St. Ives has a great body lotion that also without parabens! I still have to sort out my body wash (damn Costco for their bulk buys!) as soon as I finish my current stock.  That also goes for my make-up.  (If anyone has suggestions PLEASE let me know).  Now that my skin care has finished I have moved to Viva Organics.

Full disclosure…Jessie works for the company and she gave me full-size products for Christmas.  However, she nor Viva needs me to sell their product as they are quite popular on their own.  I am a novice when it comes to beauty products and I often turn to my lovely cousin for the skinny on what I should be using.  I have heard great things from people and my own best friend (without any prodding for me) just bought a bunch of Viva products.  I figured since I want to be more natural and clean in my eating, why not include that in my skin care?   I decided that I would keep a little record of how Viva works for me in case others have the same questions.

First…here is what I am using:

milkcleanserAromatherapy Milk Cleanser

Dry, mature, and sensitive skin need a protective cleansing solution that removes impurities, excess oil, and makeup without stripping away the skin’s natural moisture. Viva’s Milk Cleanser cares for these special skin types with the revitalizing properties of apricot kernel oil, aloe vera extract, seaweed extract, and witch hazel. With the unique blend of oat protein, silk amino acids, and ylangylang essential oil, it leaves skin wonderfully soft and smooth. (click on link for ingredients and directions) I am using this morning to wash my face.

Facial tonerAromatherapy Facial Toner

I cannot find information on the website but it is one of the most popular products that Viva Organics sell.  I will update this once I find out more info. The toner is great for refreshing, healing and is light so can be sprayed on top of make up I am using this in the morning and night (and when I remove my make-up if not at night).

firmingeyeFirming Eye Cream

As you start to get older, it’s the sensitive skin around your eyes that gives your age away. Viva’s Firming Eye Cream increases the elasticity of skin in this delicate area, reducing wrinkles and creating a dramatic lift effect while also reducing puffiness and dark circles. Hyaluronic acid provides deep hydration, while green tea and cucumber extracts provides antioxidants to help remind the delicate skin to spawn faster.  (click on link for ingredients and directions) I am using this in the morning and night.

amazegelAmaze Exfoliating Gel

Finally – a highly effective plant-based non-abrasive natural exfoliant that is light to use on the face but still has the effectiveness of traditional exfoliators. This exfoliating gel helps to sloth off the dead skin layer and deep cleans and unclogs your pores, while also minimizing visible age spots and fine lines. With its unique combination of ginseng, DangQuai, and aloe vera, the Amaze Exfoliating Gel smoothes the skin from impurities leaving your skin looking visibly more rejuvenated and fresh. (click on link for ingredients and directions) I am using this in the evening to “wash” my face.

bioserumBio Brightening C Serum

Vitamin C is critical for your body and plays an important role in maintaining healthy, resilient skin. While young skin is full of vitamin C, aging skin naturally loses this nutrient over time. Other factors like exposure to UV light, pollutants and cigarette smoke compound the decline of vitamin C, contributing to signs of aging. The good news is that you can fight back by replenishing your skin’s vitamin C levels to help to combat and even reverse time’s effect on your face. (click on link for ingredients and directions) I am using this in the evening only.

exserConcentrated Antioxidant Serum

This ultra-high-potency serum helps reduce the look of age spots, scars, fine lines, and even deep wrinkles as skin quickly becomes firmer and more radiant. Packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and organic compounds, the Concentrated Antioxidant Serum feeds your skin with the nutrients it needs to rejuvenate and revitalize your skin. (click on link for ingredients and directions) I am using this in the evening.

* Patch test recommended before applying all over the face.

Some boring pictures of my face now…

I will post every first of the month…to let you know how things are going (is it easy to use, how it’s working) and with picture proof.  Pictures are taken with my phone or iPod and no filters…in the bathroom light.

By the 15th of April I am hoping to incorporate my clean healthy eating…so stay tuned for that soon.  Please note: I am researching things on my own and what is good for me.  If you have any questions about any of these products, best to connect straight with the companies.

Good Omen and Spring Cleaning

After hours in Good Omen

For a few years I have been wanting to “clean” up my life.  I am getting into a good place for creating again.  I am taking time for myself and letting the juices flow, and not feeling guilty for doing it.  I have been working on my blog, of course, but also two other writing projects that I want to finish some day.  I am going back to making my own greeting cards, and really putting a bit of myself into them.  I am colouring in the good colouring books with the good pencil crayons.  So while my creative side is getting a good work out, my mental and physical side have still been slipping.

I am extremely lucky that my cousin is also my best friend in that I can always bug her with health and beauty questions.  She terrified the living daylights out of me with her article on parabens…one minute I think am living a fun life, and next I find out I may be covered in parabens that may be slowly killing me.  Okay, the hysteria is all mine! She did make wonderful points on being more conscious of what we are buying, and finding out what those big words really mean.  She is passionate about beauty and health so she is out there trying to find products that are safe, effective and reasonably priced. And, of course then telling me about what I need to buy.

Love the simplicity of this sign!

I am also fortunate to have a friend that is like-minded, so I have been also picking her brain and trying to absorb all her great advice on natural living.  Oh, did I mention she owns a store?  Good Omen sells natural products made by locally owned businesses. Lia, who also creates gorgeous unique jewelry, is all about supporting those that create.  I love that she  thinks that other women’s success is also your own success, and will lead to your own happiness.  While she runs an amazing business, she about seeing her customers happy and be “in the know” of the products they buy.

Lia and her picturesque shop also hosts workshops (looming, macrame plant holders, tea, herbal wellness) after hours.  With my all-over-the-place work schedule, I was unable to attend any of them.  I was determined to support my friend, so I patiently waited for an event I could attend.  Voila…enter Spring Tonic for Herbal Support and Cleansing.  Of course, if I attend anything to do with wellness I must bring along my strongest weapon, my cousin.  Not only does she know more about stuff in general, she is a whiz at this.  And, I also wanted to hang out with her and what a better event for us.

We made our own tea, and were able to take it home with us!

Going back to my wanting to live a clean life…since my grandmother’s passing, my relationship issues and job situation I have been very unhealthy.  I have been eating crap, and lots of it. I have used my anxiety as a crutch to not be active or go out on walks.  The health of my body, or lack thereof, has also led to be mentally unhealthy.  I have been eating sugar and processed food, but not really enjoying it.  Spring is coming, if Mother Nature allows it this year, and the weather will be getting nicer.  While losing weight would be fabulous, what I really need is to go back to making my own meals from scratch.  I need to go back to seeing what goes into my body.  If I can’t understand what Wikipedia is telling me then I probably don’t need to ingest it.  Well, maybe not ice cream…I mean even ice cream.  I am not going to lie to you, it’s going to be a journey, an epic Lord of the Rings size of journey, but I am determined to get there.

The jar for our custom made digestive bitters! Tee hee hee, books in the background of course. 😉

As I walked into Good Omen, I felt a bit lighter, knowing I was taking some steps to a better me.  The workshop was run by Brita Zeiler (Cordial Waters) who is an amazing person.  Like, Lia she is super passionate about herbalism.  Instead of a lecture style of teaching, this was an interactive discussion.  I can see her workshops being a little different depending on the participants.  We were encouraged to ask questions and sharing what we wanted to learn and our experiences.  I learned a lot about digestion and how I can incorporate natural herbs, plants and vegetables to be healthier.  A lot of my internal stressors will show up physically through my gut.  I feel sick and knotted if I am nervous, excited or scared.  It was great knowing that others feel that way too and that there are ways to help that be detrimental.  I am looking forward in taking what Brita taught us and doing my own research and finding something that works for me.  Thank you Brita and Lia for an amazing night! Did I also mention there was homemade hummus and crackers and tea provided by the lovely Lia? I know, when’s the next workshop, right?

Tea, Bitter, booklet and contact info!

Good Omen Upcoming Workshops

Also, at this workshop I met Sonia of Woodlot – her products are sold at Good Omen. Her soaps smell so dreamy so I have more Googling to do tonight on products.  It’s kind of amazing that you just might meet the creator of the product in the store as you are smelling it.

*All of this is just MY OPINION and THOUGHTS…you should research and make your own decisions on what will work for you! I do definitely recommend you visit Good Omen because it’s a good place to start on that reserach

Leaving the shop…but had to take one more look around!
